Do I need BES or do I need BIS?

Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES)

Blackberry Enterprise Server is primarily for Enterprise users.
Blackberry Enterprise Server is a robust software that acts as the centralized link between wireless devices, enterprise applications and wireless networks. Designed to meet the needs of enterprise, it provides a proven, secure, open architecture for extending wireless communications and corporate data to mobile users. The BES software will be installed on a server in your premises.

Client Access License (CAL), which is a part of the BES. It is the license to access corporate mails on handheld. They are available for user additions in multiples of 1 user, 5 users, 10 users, 50 users, 100 users, 500 users, 1000 users.

Blackberry Internet Service (BIS)

Blackberry Internet Service is primarily for Individual users.

Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) enables a individual customer to browse the internet, chat online and check personal emails on POP 3, IMAP (Yahoo, Gmail ) etc. You can even integrate upto 10 email accounts online on your Blackberry BIS account. This is a default service activated on your Blackberry. There are no additional charges for subscribing to this.

Web browser- Your in-built web browser allows you to browse and surf the internet at all times.

Organizer-You can organize your day better with mobile access to your calendar, address book, task list and memo pad. Accept meeting requests, modify your calendar on Blackberry and it is automatically updated on Outlook.
Attachment Viewing: You can also open, view and send attachments on popular formats such as Microsoft Word® , Microsoft Powerpoint®, Microsoft Excel®, Adobe® pdf, Corel Wordperfect®, HTML, Images.
Update settings- You can update your settings on Outlook from your Blackberry like Filters, Auto-signature and Folder management.
