Srinath Narasimhan is the Managing Director of Tata Teleservices Limited and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited, India's youngest and fastest-growing pan-India dual-technology telecom service provider. Srinath spearheads all operations at Tata Teleservices Limited, which, along with TTML, serves over 85 million customers in more than 450,000 towns and villages across the country. Under Srinath's leadership, TTSL continues to move from strength to strength, especially since its recent launch of 3G services across all nine Circles where it won the license to do so—the first launch by any private telecom operator.
Srinath has over 20 years experience within the Tata Group, having held various positions in project management, sales and marketing, as well as significant corporate functions in several Tata companies. He has been responsible for spearheading new projects in high-technology areas such as process automation and control, computers and telecommunications, and was an instrumental figure early in the launch of the Tata Group's CDMA services.
Srinath has previously served as the Managing Director and CEO of Tata Communications (formerly VSNL), part of the $62.5-billion Tata Group. He has also been Executive Assistant to the Chairman of Tata Industries, a position he held until 1992. He worked with a strategic team to set up Tata Information Systems, which later became Tata IBM. Throughout his tenure here, he accepted a number of assignments in sales and marketing.
In 1998, Srinath returned to Tata Industries as General Manager, Projects and worked with Tata Teleservices Limited in this capacity for a year. In 1999, he moved to Hyderabad as Chief Operating Officer responsible for all the operations of Tata Teleservices. In late 2000, Srinath took over as Chief Executive Officer of Tata Internet Services, a position he held until February 2002, when he moved to VSNL as Director (Operations). He subsequently became an Executive Director at VSNL.
In 2006, Srinath was honored with the Telecom Asia 'CEO of the Year' Award in recognition of his role in transforming VSNL from a domestic monopoly to a major global telecommunications company in just four years. During this time, VSNL's business model was reinvented and the company entered several new businesses, both in India and abroad.
Srinath holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata, specializing in marketing and systems.
